Subject: Preventive Medicine and Football Today as I sat next Howard Forman during the 2 hour preventive medicine conference all I could think about was the football game we would be playing against each other later that afternoon. Everything written on the whiteboard was X's and O's and arrows to me. I saw no relative risk, I saw no number needed to treat, I saw no numbers except those of my receivers and safetys. As I stared menacingly at Howie in my head and on my playbook (or the New England Journal) I was going through every play I would run every situation I would blitz in. The conference meant nothing at this point as I could only focus on what really mattered X BOX football and the rise of the Patriots (and myself) from the bottom of the National Football League. By the time conference had ended I had come up with my first 20-25 offensive plays and a whole new defensive strategy. And it worked. Running my playbook like it was practice the PATS jumped out to an early 10-7 lead. And then disaster struck Tom Brady was struck while trying to complete a pass and is now injured for the 10 weeks (meaning he will not be back to the second round of the playoffs which he will be playing in). But then the magical Rohan Davey, who you may have last seen in an Al Qeada line up came in and had a magical NFL debue leading the PATS to two touchdowns before the end of the half (which the left the score at 24-14. In the second half the Bills came out strong and chipped away to make it 24-24 (after a huge stop by the PATS defense to force Howie to kick a field goal at the 2 min warning from the 20). With less than 2 minutes left Mr. Davey took the PATS to the promised land and Antwoain butter fingers Smith ran in the winning touchdown from the 2 with 45 seconds left. Beware Tom Brady or no Brady the PATS are back and this time with Rohan Davey. I love preventive medicine I hope I play every game from now on after that conference. X BOX is life the rest (including med school) is just details Ben
